the importance of thank you letters.

I finally got the Christmas thank you letters posted this morning. What a relief! I do insist the boys say thank you – it's good manners, and in this digital age reminds then of how to use a pen. Both of them have totally atrocious handwriting, and begrudge more than about three sentences, but I persevere, and therefore so do they.

However, discussing this with some colleagues at work today I was amazed, and more than a little horrified to discover just how much of a minority we are in. Only one other person's children are forced kicking and screaming to write notes, or email, or even 'phone their thanks.

What an ungracious nation we are becoming.
