Dickensian

I’ve never really managed to get my head around Charles Dickens’ writing, which seems silly really, because I love history and I need to read thick books (because I finish the thin ones too quickly) and I’m a librarian, for goodness sake. So, in celebration of anniversaries and particularly in the bicentennial of the birth of Dickens, and after much research (reading chapters at work and asking my Mum…) I have decided to bite the bullet and I’ve downloaded The Pickwick Papers; A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations. Wish me luck.

Postscript – I’ve just realised whilst wandering around the free ebooks that I have read Dickens, because he wrote one of my favourite ghost stories, The Signal-Man. I’m ashamed to say that I thought it was M. R James.
