the children are no longer children

Tomorrow Mouse does not go back to school. It feels quite strange that I no longer have a child of school age, and not only that, but I realised today that I won’t even know any of the kids at the bus stops that we pass on the way to work – no more waving at James or Ben or Caelin as we drive by… It will be odd not to be getting emails from the school, or to have the academic calendar pinned up on the kitchen noticeboard with parent’s evenings, concerts and exams highlighted.

No more texts telling me that the school bus is late or that Mouse hasn’t done his Business Studies homework. I’ll have to take their number out of my frequently-used list!

Handsome, although not a child of school age, does have to go back to school tomorrow – for two days, and then he’s due to have his op on Wednesday and will be off for two to four weeks.

That’s not going to be popular.
